Formed in 2020, the Kennebunkport Climate Initiative may be a young organization, but its leaders maintain a dedication to a data-driven culture in order to grow in both numbers and impact. Since it is creating this culture from the ground up, KCI is not bound by legacy tools or practices and seeks to find the best ways of communicating data from a variety of sources to a variety of stakeholders.
Data Storytelling for Good, a Narrative Science initiative to showcase society-improving uses for data storytelling technology, is proud to partner with the Kennebunkport Climate Initiative, a non-partisan, solutions-based organization pushing for local, tangible solutions to the global challenge of climate change through education, empowerment and activation of young people.
"Lexio is already helping me to define campaign impact and tweak some of our digital outreach programs to ensure better efficiency and engagement"

“Being a non-profit organization in the climate action space, we pride ourselves on putting every dollar possible into our mission so being able to access this technology through Data Storytelling for Good was a dream situation,” said Meagan Cooper, Director of Marketing. “Lexio is already helping me to define campaign impact and tweak some of our digital outreach programs to ensure better efficiency and engagement”
Data Storytelling for Good
We started Data Storytelling for Good because we believe Narrative Science, while focused on building innovative and impactful products in its day-to-day, can bring immense value to the mission of making our communities and the world a better place. We know that one of our greatest assets is the software that we develop and our personnel who can educate users on the best ways to utilize our products. Data storytelling technology in the hands of organizations doing good can create a force multiplier because the time and energy saved from using data storytelling can allow an organization to make an even bigger impact on its community.
We are excited about our partnership with the Kennebunkport Climate Initiative (KCI) because it shows the impact Lexio can have on tackling the critical issue of climate change. Whether it’s to board members, volunteers or other stakeholders, KCI recognizes the importance of data storytelling to streamline operations and more effectively communicate internally and externally. Improved efficiency ultimately helps further its mission.
Data Storytelling for Good Involvement
In the spring of 2020, KCI’s Executive Director Jono Anzalone requested a demonstration of Lexio and after the first conversation with Jono and Director of Communications, Meagan Cooper, it was obvious that Lexio could make an impact. Jono and Meagan discussed the importance of narratives around donor management, volunteer and employee recruitment, social media and outbound email engagement, webinar participation, and others. Within days, Lexio was connected to Salesforce, Google Analytics, Facebook Ads and Mailchimp, and Zoom as well as data sources containing recruitment data and collections of engagement KPIs and Jono and Meagan were logging into Lexio to understand KPIs on a regular basis.
“Having experienced dashboard fatigue over the years, I was anxiously looking for a system that would provide a way to capture the quantitative while building to a story,” said Executive Director, Jono Anzalone. “Whether it be board members, internally for staff, or for the broader public community in which we are engaged, Lexio provides an easy-to-use set of tools to ensure that we are focused on the mission metrics that matter most.”
"I can already imagine how Lexio will push our mission more quickly towards our goal of reaching 10 million youth with climate change education, empowerment and activation programs by 2025."
“While new in our partnership, I can already imagine how Lexio will push our mission more quickly towards our goal of reaching 10 million youth with climate change education, empowerment and activation programs by 2025,” said Cooper.
