Narrative Science Releases Public Data Stories about COVID-19
Chicago, March 19, 2020 — Narrative Science has created data stories in our products, Quill and Lexio, using Coronavirus datasets from the World Health Organization and Johns Hopkins. The data is updated daily so readers always have the most timely and relevant data stories available to read and share. These stories are designed for public access which means they are completely free and always will be.
“This is a stressful and confusing time for most of us. It is more important than ever for us to have access to data and for everyone to be able to understand it. We knew the power of our technology and saw it as our responsibility to help in any way we could. That’s how we came to the decision to create free stories with the most up to date COVID-19 data available. We hope these stories bring wider understanding and in the future brings some peace when we begin to see a decline,” said Narrative Science CEO and Co-founder Stuart Frankel.
New information about the virus and its spread is coming out frequently and it can be hard to know where to look to stay informed. We provide a data story based solely on the facts, no editorializing and no agenda.
In a recent article, John P.A. Ioannidis, a professor of epidemiology and population health at Stanford University and co-director of Stanford’s Meta-Research Innovation Center outlines the importance of reliable information. “At a time when everyone needs better information, from disease modelers and governments to people quarantined or just social distancing, we lack reliable evidence on how many people have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 or who continue to become infected. Better information is needed to guide decisions and actions of monumental significance and to monitor their impact.”
