We’ve Turned Numbers into Knowledge
Leveraging Data to Create New Products
Presented by Larry Adams, VP of Product
Big Data Week Chicago 2013Most companies today are in a position to leverage the data they have amassed to create new revenue opportunities. They must provide real-time access to high-quality information and insight in order to meet customer expectations and differentiate from competitors. Narrative Science’s ability to transform numbers into expertly written reports enables data providers to launch new information products impossible to develop without automation. This demonstration shows several examples of innovative new products enabled by Quill.
Quill for Google Analytics: Demystifying Big Data
Presented by Larry Adams, VP of Product
Big Data Week Chicago 2013Companies are spending hours, days, even weeks of time on reporting from digital marketing and website data. And, as the volume and velocity of this data exponentially increases, accurately interpreting it and acting on it will only become more difficult and time-consuming. In order to solve this challenge, Narrative Science has developed a technology platform, called Quill™, to automatically transform raw data sets into concise, clear narrative summaries that explain what’s happening in the data and recommendations as to what to do about it. Quill analyzes data generated from any web analytics platform and converts it into customized, actionable reports that quickly answer key business questions and provide perspective into how users interact with your brand online.

Delight Your Clients: Apply Automation to the Right Problems
Nick Beil, SVP of Client Experience, recently presented a Tech Talk at the Digiday Agency Summit where he discussed how both agencies and their clients can gain faster and better insight by automating campaign performance analysis and client reporting.
Marketing Services companies are sold on the promise of automation but are not reaping the rewards. Few have improved efficiency or productivity. The industry is facing this critical challenge due to a lack of focus on solving the right problems. Leaders need to embrace new, intelligent tools that improve the most important and time-consuming parts of the day: analysis and interpretation of data to communicate valuable insight to clients. What if you could decrease time spent finding meaning in campaign performance data by more than half, while improving the quality of your analysis, communication and client service? Applying automation to the right problems will generate vast improvements in productivity, quality of output and perceived customer value.

Humans and Machines: The Role of People in Technology-Driven Organizations
Narrative Science was selected for an in-depth interview by the Economist Intelligence Unit. The report explores how the interaction between humans and technology is evolving in businesses and other organisations, and asks whether and how technological progress will continue to be complemented by the influences of human imagination and intuition. The report consists of an introduction and five discrete articles, each examining different areas of human and technology interaction. Four of the articles have a sector focus, exploring the challenges and opportunities in healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and education, while the other addresses decision-making.

Turning Numbers Into Narrative for an Audience of One
On October 5th, 2012, 300 inquisitive minds – including our CTO, Kris Hammond – sailed to Snug Harbor in New York City to explore the ways stories are changing in the 21st century. The inaugural summit, called the Future of Storytelling, featured amazing performances, intimate roundtable discussions, inspiring speakers, and hands-on workshops that sparked dialogue and meaningful connections between participants.
Never in modern human history have companies and individuals had more numbers, statistics, and metrics at their disposal: from box scores to earnings reports to housing prices to placement-test results, we are at sea in an ocean of numbers and awash in spreadsheets. As Kris Hammond explains in this film, the great challenge in the Big Data era is understanding the stories those numbers tell and, just as important, connecting the right people with the right stories.
