Chief Executive Officer
Stuart founded Narrative Science with Kris Hammond and Larry Birnbaum. Prior to this endeavor, Stuart was CEO of the Performics division of DoubleClick and was a member of DoubleClick’s senior management team when the company was sold to Google. A lawyer and a CPA, Stuart earned a BS from Miami University and a JD from Vanderbilt.
In addition to being Narrative Science’s Chief Scientist, Kris is also a professor of Computer Science and Journalism at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern, Kris founded the University of Chicago’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research has been primarily focused on artificial intelligence, machine-generated content and context-driven information systems. Kris received his PhD from Yale.
Chief Operating Officer
Nick oversees operations and the entire customer experience including sales, account management, editorial and client deployment. From 2008 to 2011, Nick was President of the VivaKi Nerve Center, a division of Publicis Groupe. Prior to his role at VivaKi, Nick served in numerous roles at the Performics division of Doubleclick and ultimately held the position of CEO. Nick earned his B.S. in Finance from the University of Missouri.
Vice President, Sales
Jeff manages our global sales team, having served in numerous sales leadership roles over the past 20 years. From 2010 to 2013, Jeff was the EVP of Sales & Business Development at Selerity, a real-time financial information & media company. Prior to joining Selerity, Jeff spent 14 years at Thomson Financial and Thomson Reuters, his last position as a Vice President of Sales in the Markets division. Jeff has an MBA degree in Finance and International Management from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.
Vice President, Product Management
Margaret leads Narrative Science’s product strategy, with over 14 years of technology experience in product management, consulting, account management and development. Most recently, Margaret served as the Vice President of Products for BrightTag and led global strategy efforts for the B2B Private Label division at Orbitz. She is a graduate of Emory University and holds an MBA from the Chicago Booth School of Management.
Vice President, Engineering
Michael Russell has been developing software since 1997 for a wide variety of application domains, including e-commerce, content management, billing, finance, grid computing and numerical physics. Michael came to Narrative Science from the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago, where he led development of web platforms for scientific collaboration. Prior to the Computation Institute, Michael worked in Amazon’s web application platform team, where he built a more streamlined solution for configuring websites and helped launch Amazon Webstore. Michael received a BS in Computer Science from the University of Chicago.
Katy De Leon
Katy joined Narrative Science from Mattersight Corporation where she led marketing strategy and execution. From 2003 to 2011, she held a variety of global marketing management roles at Adobe. Katy earned her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois-Champaign.
Chief Scientific Advisor
In addition to serving as the company’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Larry teaches Computer Science and Journalism at Northwestern, where he has previously served as Chair of Computer Science. His research focus has been in natural language processing, intelligent information systems and human-computer interaction. Larry received his BS and PhD from Yale, and was on the faculty there in Computer Science before joining Northwestern.
