Chief Executive Officer
Stuart founded Narrative Science with Kris Hammond and Larry Birnbaum. Prior to this endeavor, Stuart was CEO of the Performics division of DoubleClick and was a member of DoubleClick’s senior management team when the company was sold to Google. A lawyer and a CPA, Stuart earned a BS from Miami University and a JD from Vanderbilt.
Chief Technology Officer
In addition to being Narrative Science’s CTO, Kris is also a professor of Computer Science and Journalism at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern, Kris founded the University of Chicago’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research has been primarily focused on artificial intelligence, machine-generated content and context-driven information systems. Kris received his PhD from Yale.
Chief Operating Officer
Nick oversees operations and the entire customer experience including sales, account management, editorial and client deployment. From 2008 to 2011, Nick was President of the VivaKi Nerve Center, a division of Publicis Groupe. Prior to his role at VivaKi, Nick served in numerous roles at the Performics division of Doubleclick and ultimately held the position of CEO. Nick earned his B.S. in Finance from the University of Missouri.
Katy De Leon
Katy joined Narrative Science from Mattersight Corporation where she led marketing strategy and execution. From 2003 to 2011, she held a variety of global marketing management roles at Adobe. Katy earned her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois-Champaign.
Vice President, Engineering
Michael Russell has been developing software since 1997 for a wide variety of application domains, including e-commerce, content management, billing, finance, grid computing and numerical physics. Michael came to Narrative Science from the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago, where he led development of web platforms for scientific collaboration. Prior to the Computation Institute, Michael worked in Amazon’s web application platform team, where he built a more streamlined solution for configuring websites and helped launch Amazon Webstore. Michael received a BS in Computer Science from the University of Chicago.
Chief Scientific Advisor
In addition to serving as the company’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Larry teaches Computer Science and Journalism at Northwestern, where he has previously served as Chair of Computer Science. His research focus has been in natural language processing, intelligent information systems and human-computer interaction. Larry received his BS and PhD from Yale, and was on the faculty there in Computer Science before joining Northwestern.
